Wer sind wir?

We are often asked: “What does Anggrek actually mean?” Anggrek means ‘orchid’ in Malay, and this name comes from the past:

1963 | 1990

In 1963, Koos Weterings took over a flower shop in Kaatsheuvel called Anggrek. Under Koos’ guidance, the business grew. His progressive shop windows were particularly noteworthy at the time. Partly because of this, the business quickly became a well-known phenomenon in Kaatsheuvel and the surrounding area. Later, shops were also opened in Waalwijk, Drunen and Dongen.

The shift to event styling began around 1990 when Anggrek was asked to create floral decorations for a catering company. Koos and his wife Roos were very enthusiastic about this industry. They soon started renting out plants and creating large floral decorations for parties. A few years later, this had grown into the rental of complete interior designs.

After 30 years, the company moved from Kaatsheuvel to Udenhout. There, an industrial building and greenhouse were built behind the house. From there, the most beautiful themed interiors and bars were conceived and prepared, because that’s what Anggrek was known for! Some of the bars from back then are still the characteristic eye-catchers of today in an atmospheric brown café, for example.

Soon, the location behind the house became too small, and in 2000, a hall with a loading bay, upper floor and lift was built on the industrial estate in Udenhout. What a difference that made! As a result, the company continued to grow and become more professional.

In 2004, Coen Weterings took over the business from his father Koos and his wife Roos Weterings. After years of collaboration, he is now at the helm of the company. The designs are becoming more contemporary, more modern and increasingly in line with current trends.

In 2010, Anggrek moved from Udenhout to Berkel Enschot, a new hall for a new direction for the company. In addition to event furnishings, more and more customised stands were being designed and built. We continued to develop in this area because we found it extremely appealing.

We have now moved back to Udenhout and are involved in various types of projects, such as designing and realising offices, canteens, consultation rooms and TV studios, but mainly stand construction projects.

“Every project we used to do in event design is a challenge in which we put our creativity, just like my father used to do in his shop windows. We have started to use this knowledge, experience and expertise for other stand construction and other projects. Think of offices, canteens, shops, catering establishments, etc. In principle, the basis is the same; we look at the customer’s needs and wishes and map them out. From there, we create a design that we develop through drawings, collages and visualisations. The big difference is that with stand construction, we can dismantle everything after two or three days, whereas with other projects, it’s for the long term! But we find both types of projects very enjoyable and inspiring.

Times have changed, as have trends, but the commitment has remained the same. And fortunately, my father still drops by regularly to see if everything is going well.”
